  • A deeper connection to yourself and others in the program

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A learn-by-doing experience. You will move through a series of interactive activities in small breakouts and as a whole group. After each, we discuss discoveries and applications. Sessions will take place weekly on Zoom, build progressively and include assignments to try in your daily life.

  • Fun without having to be funny. Jokes are not the goal here. That said, there’s usually tons of communal joy. Our aim is to create a space for all personality types to delight in the process of personal growth. If this sounds a little scary, that’s normal and all the more reason to register.

WHAT IS APPLIED IMPROVISATION

Applied improv describes a growing field exploring the application of the practices of theatrical improvisation beyond theater spaces, to foster the interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in volatile and rapidly changing environments. We use applied improvisation because scientific research links the practice of improvisation to increased: creativity and psychological well-being, confidence, adaptability, uncertainty tolerance, and participation.

WHY THIS IS FREE

This program has been funded by a team of international university researchers led by Dr. Catherine Connelly of McMaster University. They are interested in exploring how well-being is related to leadership behaviour and how training might impact this relationship. If you are accepted into this course, you will be asked to answer surveys before, during and after the training. The full study will take part over the course of 8 weeks, and your overall time commitment will be approximately one hour per week.
